Re Medieval Festival 2016 will be held this year for the 9th time! This year you are invited to a cold and magical journey in time!

Re Medieval Festival commemorates the two battles of Re in 1163 and 1177 A.D. The battles took place in a period of civil wars in Norway that lasted from 1130 until 1240 A.D. Unclear laws of who were to be the king’s successors, social circumstances and a power struggle between church and king were the main ingredients of the conflicts.

Re Medieval Festival use the historic events as means to study life as is was in those days and present it to present generations. Schools move their classes to the festival area and get a live experience through drama, dance, music, fighting, food, storytellers and various crafts. On Friday night and daytime Saturday the Medieval Market is open for the public, along with numerous activities and cultural presentations for young and old. The battle of 1163 is re-enacted at noon on Saturday. The festival ends on Saturday evening with a celebration where medieval-inspired bands lead the song and dance. Increasing numbers of people, both medieval-clad and civilians, join the turning of grim historic events into times of laughter and joy. – Read more!
